Student Trustee Jackson called the meeting to order at 9:15 a.m.
A quorum was present.

PUBLIC AGENDA SPEAKERS
Mr. Nehasi Lee, Black Caucus of the California Community Colleges,
addressed the Committee regarding food services at the nine LACCD
campuses.
Motion by Mr. Gosen, seconded by Mr. McCracken, to allow Mr. Lee an
additional two minutes to continue his public comments.

Mr. Lee stated that funding has been allocated from the state of California to
the LACCD for a Student Equity Plan, and reminded the Committee members
that food is a social justice and equity issue.

STUDENT TRUSTEE MONTHLY REPORT
Student Trustee Jackson reported on his recent meeting with Chancellor
Francisco Rodriguez regarding partnering with local universities to increase
LACCD transfer rates.
Student Trustee Jackson also reminded the
Committee members of the seats on the LACCD Board of Trustees that are
open for election in 2015.

ASO/ASU/ASG Advisors Report
On behalf of M. Sonia Lopez, Dr. Elizabeth Negrete invited the Committee
members to register for the upcoming Fall 2014 General Assembly meeting
of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges happening at the
Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel on November 14-16, 2014. She
invited the Committee members to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for
LAVC’s Student Union building scheduled for Monday, October 27, 2014 at
12:30 p.m. in the North Mall.

MATTERS FOR/OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Discussion ensued regarding the process for out-of-state student travel that
is approved by the Board; student concerns with inadequate food services at
each college; and discontinuation of the shuttle at LAMC.

DISCUSSION ITEMS
Food services issues and concerns for all nine colleges were discussed.
There being no objections, the District Office Report was taken out of order.
District Office Report
Ms. Kimble reported that the student surveys have been distributed to all
nine LACCD colleges and are due to be completed and returned to the
Educational Services Center on or before October 19, 2014.

RESOURCE TABLE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE – James Johnston (LATTC) –
October 22, 2014 (ESC)
Mr. James Johnston (LATTC) will serve as the Student Representative at the
Resource Table for the Board meeting of October 22, 2014.
NEW BUSINESS
Student Trustee Jackson announced the possibility of arranging Town Hall
meetings to be held at each college that would be coordinated through the
respective ASO/ASU/ASG Advisors. This will give all students an opportunity
to make their concerns heard.
SUMMARY – NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Student Affairs Committee is scheduled for
Friday, November 14, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. The deadline for submitting
agenda items is Monday, November 3, 2014.
