Trustee Svonkin called the meeting to order at 8:16 a.m.
WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS
Trustee Svonkin introduced and welcomed Co-Chair Sheriff Jim McDonnell, Los
Angeles County. He expressed his appreciation to the Blue Ribbon Panel for
participating and sharing their expertise in order to create a safer campus
environment for students and staff at the Los Angeles Community College District.

CHARGE TO THE BLUE RIBBON PANEL
Chancellor Francisco C. Rodriguez discussed what the charge of the sub-committee
will be in order to develop a report with recommendations to the Blue Ribbon Panel,
and ultimately, the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees.
OVERVIEW OF THE LOS ANGELES COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT
Documents entitled “Education Changes Everything, Your future begins here, Los
Angeles Community College District; Fast Facts; and the Los Angeles Community
College District Map” were distributed.
Chancellor Rodriguez gave an overview of the content of the handout with respect
to the profile of the nine colleges of the Los Angeles Community Colleges District
and the population served.
REVIEW OF LACCD CRIME STATISTICS
• Review of Recent Incidents
A document entitled “Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Community College
Bureau” was distributed.

Captain Cheryl Newman-Tarwater gave a PowerPoint presentation and discussed
the document with respect to the 2014 Crime Statistics, Notable 2014 Arrests,
Clergy Compliance & Audit, Social Media Monitoring, Safety and SecurityEducational Site Survey and Information Sharing (ESSIS), and Community Oriented
Policing Surveys.
A question and answer session was conducted regarding various components of
campus safety.

Trustee Svonkin discussed the purpose of the subcommittees on Campus Safety
and Emergency Preparedness. He indicated a memo will be distributed to the Blue
Ribbon Panel informing them of the schedule of the next subcommittee meetings.
He noted that the Blue Ribbon Panel will have the opportunity to choose to attend
one or both subcommittee meetings, depending on interest and expertise.
ESTABLISH CALENDAR OF MEETING DATES
Trustee Svonkin announced that the next meeting will be tentatively scheduled on
February 18, 2015
ADJOURNMENT
There being no objection, the meeting was adjourned at 9:39 a.m.
