MATH 1410 Number Concepts/Algebra Structures Competencies The student will be able to: 1. Apply Polya’s four steps to problem solving. 2. Work problems using sets and set notation. 5. Solve problems using relations and Cartesian products. 6. Work problems that deal with functions and their special properties. 7. Work with patterns of numeration both with base ten and other bases. 8. Work the mathematical operations over the set of whole numbers utilizing computations in several bases. 9. Perform the mathematical operations utilizing the system of integers. 10. Work with elementary number theory using primes, composites, and factorization. 11. Find the greatest common factor and least common multiple. 12. Work with modular arithmetic. 13. Perform the mathematical operations utilizing rational numbers. 14.
