Building on that tradition, the Award for Distinction in Outreach and Public Service acknowledges outstanding and sustained effort towards furthering the university’s outreach and public service mandate. The award recognizes exemplary contributions of university staff and faculty members undertaking efforts that are meaningful and responsive to community interests and needs, and reflect positively on the university as a whole. The award celebrates innovative activities and programs within paid or voluntary work that are designed to inform, involve, or assist external audiences. PURPOSE: The Award for Distinction in Outreach and Public Service recognizes University of Saskatchewan staff and faculty who have contributed greatly, and with distinction, to the achievement of the university’s public engagement mission. ELIGIBILITY: All staff and faculty of the university of the University of Saskatchewan, working full or part-time, are eligible for nomination. NOMINATIONS: Anyone from the university community (leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni), or a community member may forward nominations. Nominations will be held for a two-year period, with non-recipients considered the following year. THE AWARD: Recipients will be introduced at either Spring or Fall Convocation, receive an inscribed memento, and will be featured on the university website. CRITERIA: Distinction in outreach and public service may be achieved in many ways, including but not limited to: Volunteering in a capacity that is community-oriented and reflects positively on the university. Responding to community needs and priorities through the sharing of knowledge in ways that are appreciated by community. Contributing to lifelong learning through continuing education, service, or clinical mentorship. Strengthening collaborations with public organizations or communities to bring about educational experiences mutually beneficial to both public and university. Recipients of this award will have demonstrated exceptional and sustained commitment above and beyond their normal work duties, using their skills and expertise in ways that engage the public and enhance the University of Saskatchewan’s reputation locally, nationally, or internationally, with substantive impact and long-term significance for the larger community. SELECTION COMMITTEE: The Director of Community Engagement or designate (as Chair), the Chancellor or designate, two members of the Senate Roundtable on Outreach and Engagement, and two past recipients of the award.
