AP Human Geography
Greg Sherwin Biography:
Greg Sherwin teaches AP Human Geography at Adlai E. Stevenson High School located in the northern suburbs of Chicago. He has served in a variety of leadership capacities at the annual AP Human Geography reading and within the AP Human Geography community. He served on the AP Human Geography Test Development
Committee (2002-2006). In 2007, he coauthored the AP Human Geography Teacher’s Guide with Paul Gray and published by the College Board. He has presented topics for the College Board on AP Human Geography at conferences and workshops throughout the country and in Scotland and Australia.
Most recently, he co-authored the Advanced Placement Study Guide for Human Geography: People, Place and
Culture 10 th
and 11 th
editions with Paul Gray (Wiley Publishing). In 2015, Mr. Sherwin received a Distinguished
Teaching Award from the National Council for Geography Education (NCGE). He also has worked with 30 other
AP Human Geography teachers to create an app to prepare students for the exam. His field study assignment is available on the AP Central Website.
Course Description:
This workshop is designed for new and experienced AP Human Geography teachers. Throughout the week, participants will engage in the following: syllabus/course audit development; addressing how to teach the course to 9 th
/10 th
graders; covering key concepts in all seven units; writing multiple choice and free response questions; lesson ideas; test analysis; and the use of online sources. Lessons will be modeled for each of the seven units.
Participants will share a lesson and test questions by the end of the institute. Please bring a flash drive with at least 8g of storage.
