crews worked to restore power to 33,000 customers throughout the Las Vegas area

lines, and standing water on casino floors.

2. July 19, Associated Press – (Pennsylvania) DOE study finds fracking chemicals
didn’t taint water. The U.S. Department of Energy issued preliminary findings of a
study that determined there was no evidence showing that chemicals from the natural
gas drilling process moved up to contaminate drinking water aquifers at a western
Pennsylvania drilling site. The study is ongoing however, and researchers found that
chemical-laced fluids used to free gas trapped deep below the surface stayed thousands
of feet below the shallower areas that supplied drinking water.

down because of chemical leak reopened. A leak from a tanker carrying water mixed
with hydrochloric acid residue prompted officials to close a stretch of Interstate 70 near

via health records. Several States have begun privacy audits and reviews of their
health data collection policies to ensure patients cannot be identified in publicly
available databases of hospital records after a report uncovered some patients at

combined with news articles and other public information. Washington suspended
distribution of the information and developed a confidentiality agreement that all
buyers must now sign as a result.

home fire. An accidental fire that started in a patient’s room at Wynd Ridge Health and

conditioning unit.

30. July 21, Reuters – (National) US Marshals lose track of 2,000 encrypted radios. The
U.S. Marshals Service announced they will conduct a complete inventory review of
their two-way radios after a July 21 report determined they lost track of roughly 2,000
encrypted two-way radios worth millions of dollars. The service is in the process of
acquiring a new property management system and do not believe public safety was ever
jeopardized as a result of the loss.

31. July 21, WIVB 4 Buffalo – (New York) Beach closed at Darien Lakes State Park.
Officials with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic
Preservation closed the beach at Darien Lakes State Park after heavy rainfall made the
water unsuitable for swimming. Authorities will determine when the beach will reopen
once results from water quality monitoring are reviewed July 22.

campground reopens after spill. Four months after a Chevron Pipe Line Co. pipeline
failed and leaked roughly 20,000 gallons of diesel fuel into soil and marshes, the
Willard Bay State Park’s North Campground and Marina reopened July 19 after the
Utah Division of Water Quality deemed it safe. A preliminary investigation found that
a seam along the 8-inch pipeline split caused the leak.

37. July 19, Associated Press – (Texas) Fort Bliss officials say radioactivity found at
Cold War-era bunker not a health threat. Fort Bliss officials announced
contamination from a bunker on the west Texas military post was contained to the floor
of one bunker at Biggs Army Airfield and that the radiation levels are equal to those
naturally occurring in the environment. Investigators will conduct additional tests to
search for potentially contaminated buildings, but authorities assured the public the
ground water is safe and the buried containers have not seeped into ground water.

cells. Ten to 15 inmates broke out of their cells July 21, the latest of a recent number of
disturbances at the Hinds County Detention Facility in Raymond, Mississippi, due to
malfunctioning locks. Prison guards and the Hinds County SWAT team responded and
kept the situation under control.

County chemical attack. Four deputies and a civilian were sent to an area hospital for
possible lye exposure July 18 after they were attacked by the civilian in Orange
County, Florida. The officers were attempting to speak to the suspect, when they were
attacked with a chemical.

computer to evade detection. Trend Micro researchers identified a spam botnet
dubbed StealRat which uses two compromised Web sites and one computer infected

infected computer rather than a spam server.

meant no harm. Apple reported that an intruder attempted to gain access to its

cut fiber wire. Verizon Communication confirmed July 19 outages in southcentral
Pennsylvania were caused by a fiber-optic cable cut by a down tree in Harrisburg and

54. July 19, Jacksonville First Coast News – (Florida) 2 injured in Southside Motel 6
shooting, fire. Authorities responded July 19 to a fire and shooting at a Motel 6 in

Jacksonville that left at least two people injured. The fire was believed to be
intentionally set and prompted the evacuation of several rooms and left significant
damage.

55. July 20, KATC 3 Lafayette – (Louisiana) Levee nearly complete around Vermilion
Parish school. Contractors began working on a six-week, $2 million levee project in
Vermillion Parish designed to protect two schools as the peak of the 2013 hurricane
season approaches.

56. July 19, Rockford Rock River Times – (Illinois) Rock River now open with no
restrictions after cable replaced above Fordam Dam. The Illinois Department of
Natural Resources lifted the restriction on the Rock River in Winnebago County,
allowing waters to open for normal use after repairs were completed on a damaged
cable above the Fordam Dam.

57. July 19, WJCL 22 Savannah; WTGS 28 Hardeeville – (Georgia) Dam releases raise
flooding concerns along Savannah River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers warned
boaters and anglers of faster water flow along the Savannah River after they began
releasing water from 3 upstream dams in Georgia due to heavy rainfall.
