July 19, Associated Press – (Pennsylvania) DOE study finds fracking chemicals didn’t taint water. The U.S. Department of Energy issued preliminary findings of a study that determined there was no evidence showing that chemicals from the natural gas drilling process moved up to contaminate drinking water aquifers at a western Pennsylvania drilling site. The study is ongoing however, and researchers found that chemical-laced fluids used to free gas trapped deep below the surface stayed thousands of feet below the shallower areas that supplied drinking water.
