The Department of Art, with the support of the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council, Campus Activities Board and the Art in Public Places Initiative has announced a call for student sculpture proposals for the Student Sculpture Garden on the campus of the University of Louisiana Monroe. Students currently enrolled in a course of study at the University of Louisiana, Monroe, are eligible to apply for a $350 honorarium to cover the cost of supplies and materials for the design and construction of a work of art for outdoor display adjacent to the existing Sculpture Garden. Work must be at least six feet in any direction including installation. All work must be able to withstand average weather conditions of Northeast Louisiana. Work must be securely constructed and presented. Work deemed unsafe will not be accepted. Work that becomes unsafe will be removed. It is expected that the artist will consider the public nature of the Student Sculpture Garden and provide work that is suitable for a campus community. While the final work may deviate from the original proposal any work deemed unacceptable will not be installed and the student will be responsible for returning the primary amount. Selected work will be displayed for a period of one year from the date of installation. All work remains in the ownership of the artist and will be returned to the artist after the display period. The University of Louisiana Monroe, VAPA, and the Department of Art will not retain any commission on the sale of these works. Patrons expressing interest in the purchase of a work will be placed in direct contact with the artist. The University of Louisiana Monroe will not insure the works.
