Office of International Programs has offered financial assistance for next year so that we can have even more passports and prizes. P.S. If you weren’t there to have your picture taken as/with the Mona Lisa, you missed a great opportunity! They don’t let you get that close to her in the Louvre. INFORMATION FOR RAFFLE: Read this carefully! We need help from everyone to make this raffle as big a success as the one last year! I know that many on the fund-raising committee are already gathering donations from restaurants, merchants, artists, and friends so that we will have plenty of good raffle items. If you are on the committee, please contact Cindy Richards or Rosemary Jordan to see what you can do to help. Cynthia.richards@nhcs.net<mailto:Cynthia.richards@nhcs.net> and sara.jordan@nhcs.net<mailto:sara.jordan@nhcs.net> In addition to donated items from businesses, we ask all of our members to consider what you might donate. We love baked goods, handmade items, and teaching tools, books, and supplies that you may no longer need. Also consider the marvelous “white elephants” that we all have in our closets and garages! A big part of the fun is seeing what is up for the winning! Plants are welcome (I hope they still are!), but no puppies, kittens, birds, snakes or other wildlife! Things we have had in the past: surfing lessons, golf rounds, pens, golf balls, and jelly beans from Air Force One, rib-eye steaks, a whole ham, pound cakes, banana bread, chocolate chip cookies, assorted pies, painted chairs (I think one is coming this year!), a turtle lamp and other less-descript (?) lamps, multiple tables, handmade pottery, a baby quilt, an artificial ficus (“lives” now in FLL), tickets to Airlie Gardens, pizzas, dinners-for-two, a night in a bed-and-breakfast inn, jewelry, decorating items, many original paintings, CD’s, a mask from South America, new luggage, tickets for frozen yogurt, popcorn gift certificates, wine (sshh!), and the list is longer than my memory! Last but not least: Bring $$$$ for tickets. Each ticket is a dollar, but bonus tickets will be given for purchases of $5, $10, etc. UPCOMING CAMPUS AND LOCAL EVENTS: For Cinematique Films, see http://whqr.org/topic/cinematique-wilmington-film-series For UNCW Presents, see http://uncw.edu/presents/season.html YEARLY DUES: It is never too late to pay dues. While we have had 72 persons participate in some way this year, we have 48 paid members. For many years it has been our goal to reach 50 paid members. This is as close as we have ever been! Surely we can get a few more! Yearly dues are $15 ($5 for full-time students). Checks should be made to Cape Fear Foreign Language Collaborative. Dues may be paid at any meeting or mailed at any time to Julie Bordo, 202 Wayne Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403. We depend on your dues to help with miscellaneous expenses and with the scholarships. SPONSORS: CFFLC is sponsored by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Other sponsors this year include The Women’s Studies and Resource Center at UNCW and the Business Office of UNCW. We are most grateful to Vista Learning for covering all of the expenses for our January speaker. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Please contact Joann Mount at mountj@uncw.edu in the event that you have professional information and announcements that you would like distributed to our membership. Everyone is encouraged to forward a copy of this newsletter with a personal invitation to attend to your foreign language and ESL colleagues in your school or county.
