We are sure that your upcoming vacations are very well deserved. We’re going to conclude this academic year with our final meeting of the Collaborative on April 16. After your Spring Break and a trip to the Azalea Festival, we would love for all members, as well as potential members, to join us for an enlightening and entertaining morning at UNCW. APRIL MEETING: We are excited about our next meeting on Saturday, April 16, 8:30am – 12:00pm. Free parking is available in Lot G (north of Leutze Hall). Technology Tools for the Foreign Language Classroom: We will feature a special program by Dr. Jeff Ertzberger from the Watson College of Education at UNCW. Dr. Ertzberger is the author of Everyone Wins: A Teachers Guide to Customizing Games for any Curriculum. His research interests include: Games in education, Hybrid courses, New learning environments, Curriculum Specific materials for emerging technologies, Using technology to effectively differentiate instruction for students, Web enhanced instruction, Instructional design, and Use of laptops and technology tools in the classroom. He will share his expertise and use of these tools that will help all of us refresh our lesson plans. Page 1 of 4 Presentation of High School Scholarships: The Scholarship Committee will announce the winners of this esteemed award for 2015-2016. Fundraising Raffle: Who says re-gifting is a bad thing? If you have ANY unused treasures lingering around the house that you discover during your spring cleaning, PLEASE donate them to the Scholarship Fundraising Committee for the raffle. Also welcome are baked goods, craft items, books, teaching tools, plants, etc. Donations received thus far (thank you donors!) as well as letters and help requesting gift cards / certificates from businesses you frequent are located on the Wiki site: CFFLC Wiki Here’s a preview of April’s meeting (with approximate times): 8:30 Registration and refreshments 9:00 Business meeting and announcements Please bring announcements of school changes, cultural events, workshops and conferences, etc. We will hear a report from the treasurer, discuss committee work, and present the recipients of the 2015-2016 CFFLC High School Scholarships. 9:30 Professional development session from Jeff Ertzberger 10: 45 Professional Development Survey 11:00 Fundraising Raffle (Bring your cash and checks please -- you don’t want to miss out on a treat for yourself or a loved one) 2015-2016 PROGRAM All meetings are held in Leutze Hall 143 and adjacent rooms. Attendees may park in Lot G (north of Leutze Hall). More information about each program will be distributed in subsequent newsletters. As always we will keep track of attendance for the year and will distribute certificates verifying attendance at meetings. These may be used to request CEU credit from your school system. DUES & SPONSORSHIP YEARLY DUES: The April meeting will be your last opportunity to pay CFFLC dues. Yearly dues are $20 ($10 for full-time students). Checks should be made payable to: Cape Fear Foreign Language Collaborative. We depend on your dues to help with miscellaneous expenses and with the scholarships. Thanks for your support! SCHOLARSHIPS: Our scholarship program continues to be a success. We awarded three scholarships to UNCW students last year and one to a graduating senior in high school for a total of $1100. CFFLC is proud to announce that scholarships awarded since the inception of the program in 1995 total $13,525. This includes $300 given by Vista Higher Learning in November 2014. All other funds have been raised by the membership of CFFLC.
