Proposed International Studies Courses for WSE
EDN 317- Seminar in International Education (1-3 hours)
Prerequisite: Consent of the instructor
This course will focus on country-specific culture, cross-cultural experiences in
education. The major emphasis of this course will be on the presentation of educational
practices unique to a particular country or region.
EDN 342- Global Education Issues (3 hours)
Prerequisite: Admission to Watson School of Education
This course will provide a critical examination of global events and issues using the lens
of the theory of global citizenship. This course has been designed for education students
preparing for or returning from a study abroad experience.
EDN 350 Comparative Education (3 hours)
Prerequisite: Consent of the instructor
This course will examine and compare major differences in the approach to education in
the K-12 setting in selected countries/regions. Differences in theoretical approaches as
well as the application of pedagogies or teaching strategies will be studied. This course
has been designed for education students preparing for or returning from a study abroad
experience.
EDN-455 International Education Field Experience (1-6 hours)
Prerequisite: Consent of the instructor
This course will provide daily experiences in a selected educational setting abroad.
Students will keep records and provide an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the
system studied. This course has been designed for education students participating in a
study abroad experience.

EDN 468 International Practicum in Education (6-12 hours)
Prerequisite: Consent of the instructor
A full-time practicum experience within the area of specialization. Students will engage
in a variety of supervised instructional activities, assuming an increasing amount of
responsibility for all phases of class instruction. Practical is offered in the areas of
elementary education (K-6), middle grades education (6-9), secondary education (9-12)
and special education. This course has been designed for education students participating
in a study abroad experience.
EDN 492 Directed Independent Study in Comparative Education (1-3 hours)
Prerequisite: Consent of the instructor
Involves investigation of specified topic under faculty supervision. Areas of focus may
include teaching strategies, theoretical approaches, assessment, evaluation models and
utilization of technology. This course has been designed for education students
participating in a study abroad experience.
