History 12/3/08
Kathy,
I think the International Studies major is well thought out and endorse its establishment. This is a
program that is likely to have an impact on History enrollments and on History majors, although it is
not possible at this time to be certain what those impacts will be. Thus we may need to make
adjustments as the program gets underway.
I hope to see this program advanced in the near future.
Best,

CSB Chairs and Associate Dean 12/9/08
Kate,
Yes, the CSB endorses the International Studies Major from the College of Arts & Sciences.
The Department of Economics & Finance (Burrus) had no changes. The Department of Accountancy and
Business Law (Hanson) had no changes. The Department of Information Systems and Operations
Management (Canel) had no changes.
The Department of Management (Tammy Hunt) and the Department of Marketing (James Hunt) were
concerned that without listing all the perquisites of prerequisites (like MAT111 needed for ECN221 and
then ECN221 needed for ECN222) that an International Studies Major student might think they could
take ECN222 without the prerequisites to the course. They thought it would be clearer if you explicitly
put in prerequisites to prerequisites. My view is that that is not something done in the catalogue, it is
your call (not James’ or Tammy’s) about the format for presentation. To me, if you did the prerequisites
to prerequisites for each CSB class then you should do it for every course – very tedious.
All the departments as well as the CSB itself supports the International Studies Major.
