SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK College of Health and Human Services University of North Carolina Wilmington Strengths Collaborative DSS/Child Protective Services Faculty and staff work with DSS/CPS agencies developing training for implementing Strengths and Solution focused Child Safety training. This approach incorporates strengths based solution-focused practice and collaborations with families and children. Strengths/Solutions-Based Public Schools Efforts are directed at bringing Practice, Research and Training strengths/resiliency based/solution-focused approaches to community schools. Models such as the Garza Independent High School in Austin Texas; Learned Optimism; Classroom Solutions Model from New River Middle school;. Mindfulness and social/ emotional learning and neuroscience practices. Military Social Work: Trainings, workshops, and interventions to assist military personnel and families. Post-traumatic growth, PTSD, and physical injury recovery. Also, two sequence courses in appreciating war zone conditions and interventions and preventive measures. African-American Youth The collaborative is making efforts to initiate research and trainings focused on utilizing the strengths-based solution focused interventions. The outcomes are intended to assist in better and outcomes with the AfricanAmerican youth. Mediation and Supervision Training Workshops/ trainings in Solution-focused mediation practice and supervision in a range of settings. Strengths/Solutions Collaborative The Strengths/ Solutions based Practice, Research and Training Collaborative is a partnership of practitioners, agencies, communities, trainers and researches dedicated to building strengths-based and solution focused practices with individuals, families and communities. The Collaborative is housed in the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. It creates conferences , forums, and continuing education opportunities for the community interested in neuroscience research and resulting practices such as mindfulness meditation and positive psychology Mission The Collaborative is to work closely with practitioners and educators in designing, delivering and evaluating strengths/solution-focused approaches to human and educational services, achieved through five major programs, each of which has a variety of projects. Programs Resource Partners Consultation Program Provides Training Program Education Program consultation services to agencies, individuals, or groups wishing to develop and evaluate strengthsbased and solution-focused practice within their agency or service. Consultation Program Research Program Serves the function of Research Program Solution-Focused Practice Group evaluating and developing various aspects of strengths/ resiliency-based and solution-focused services.
