Report Description/Purpose
This report provides a summary of total undergraduate tuition assessed by college of
instruction excluding program based tuition (Dentistry, Medicine, and Veterinary
Medicine). Graduate Studies and program based tuition is available in Report 4286.
Review reports for reasonableness and ensure that the Tuition Category codes and
classification by Core and Contract class are correct.
Intended Audience
Financial Managers.
Report Availability
This report is updated quarterly (August 1, November 1, February 1 and May 1).
Quarterly reports are retained during the current and prior fiscal year.
The year end report dated May 1 is retained for 10 years.
Report Elements
This report is summarized by four major class levels (Graduate, Undergraduate, Nondegree and Affiliated) and is further sorted by College of Instruction and Term (Spring,
Summer, Fall, Winter). In each university level, information is sorted by Core or
Contract Class, College, Department and Class Century Band (100 to 400).
Core Class
Classes that form the basis of instructional activity for a college and
department that are not classified as a contract class.
Contract Class
Any class with a unique billing or funding arrangement and/or
reporting requirement.
Course Description
The course description includes the CRN (unique course
registration number); course name, section number and tuition
category code (TCxx).
Class-Student Registration
This represents the total number of classes listed in the report
multiplied by the number of students registered in each of those
classes. For example, if there were 2,000 classes and each class
had 10 students registered, the total class-student registration
would be 20,000. This does not represent a head-count as

individual students are counted multiple times if they are in more
than one class. Class-Student Registration also includes students
registered in labs, tutorials and non-academic courses.
Base Tuition
The amount of tuition for the class based on the number of students
registered in the class, the billing hours for each student and the
rate per billing hour. The billing hours for each student are affected
by withdrawals from class as outlined in the Class Cancellation and
Payment Schedule. The rate per billing hour is determined the
tuition category code (TCxx) assigned to the class.
Differential Tuition The amount of differential tuition for the class based on the number
of international students registered in the class and the differential
factor for the course. The Differential tuition for undergraduate
international students is assessed at an additional 1.6 times the
base tuition with some exceptions.
Total Tuition
Total of the base tuition and differential tuition.
Academic CU
Total of all academic credit units based on the number of students
in each class, lab and tutorial. The Academic Credit Units are
displayed to identify situations where there is academic activity but
no billing hours. The Academic Credit Units on this report should
not be used as the “official measure” of teaching activity in the
college.
Billing HRS
Total billing hours based on the number of students in the classes.
Billing hours are used to calculate the amount of tuition charged on
each class.
Class Century Band Classes are categorized as either non-degree or 1,2,3,4 (for 100 to
400 level courses).
Additional Notes
Report is on based on College of Instruction not College of Registration. Class-student
registration and tuition are sub-totaled by instruction college. For example, a
Kinesiology student registered in an Arts & Science course will have that course
registration reported in the Arts & Science section.
