Before You Tutor
• Review the child’s file
• Call the parent
• Prepare for the first session
Make ‘airport’ sign
Arrive early-professional manner/dress
Turn in first day plans for approval
• Locate resources in the Ed Lab and
CMC
Calling the Parent
Call parent within 2 days of placement
• Introduce yourself.
• Ask about your new student. Ask good
questions. Take good notes.
• Set your tutoring times and days.

On Your First Day
Tutoring…
• Meet your student and family outside
the Ed Lab. They will be coming in to
sign papers.
• Wear your name tag.
• Talk about ‘pick up.’
• Have parents see Ed Lab staff for
any necessary paperwork.
