Throughout the year we program a variety of entertainment events for students including comedians, films, small concerts, homecoming, Midnite Madness, Fall Fest and Spring Fest. Spring Fest is one of the biggest weeks ACE programs during the year. Events for the week include comedians, concerts, films, carnival type activities, and gaming contests which all lead up to the Big Spring Show. The Big Spring Show is a show students, faculty, staff, and the Wilmington community looks forward to each year and has become a tradition at UNCW. Past acts include Demetri Martin, Kanye West, The All American Rejects, Something Corporate, Dave Chappelle, and Ludacris. This year, we have comedian Nick Swardson as our 2008 Spring Show. Nick started stand up at the age of 18. In his first year of stand up he was chosen to perform at the U.S. Comedy Arts festival. Over the next couple years Nick established himself in some of the major clubs across the country. He then moved to New York and became a regular at the Comic Strip, Caroline's and Luna Lounge. He also compiled numerous appearances on the Tonight Show, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Real Time with Bill Maher and the Late Show with Craig Kilborn. Nick is currently working with Adam Sandler and his company Happy Madison Productions on several comedy films and a pilot for the WB network. He wrote and starred in the Happy Madison produced films “Grandma’s Boy” and “Benchwarmers”. Currently, you can see Nick in his recurring role as 'Terry' on Reno 911 on Comedy Central. Page 3 Annual Cornerstone Student Awards Each academic year, we recognize exceptional undergraduate and graduate contributions and achievements within and beyond our university community. The Senior Medallion Award is the most prestigious award presented by the Division of Student Affairs on behalf of the university community to a select group of students each year. The Distinguished Service Award is presented annually to a select group of students who have made a significant contribution to UNCW over the course of their undergraduate or graduate experience. The Leadership Excellence Award is presented to a select group of freshmen, sopho- mores, juniors, seniors and graduate students for outstanding contributions to improving the quality of student life over the past academic year. The recipients must currently be in good academic standing and possess a record of good citizenship. In addition, these students must have distinguished themselves among their peers. All recipients are recognized at our annual Cornerstone Student Awards Banquet. It is a time of recognition, celebration, and community. This program exposes new students to the educational opportunities within UNCW, orients them to the academic and cocurricular life of the institution, and assists them in their on-going transition to the university beyond orientation. The Office of Transition Programs also assists parents in their transition and understanding of the UNCW environment, services and changes within the university. The office is also responsible for a comprehensive senior transition program designed to help seniors make meaning of their college experience, celebrate their achievements and prepare them for life after college.
