Welcome Dr. Susan Ganter, Director of School of Education
June 15, 2015 – The SOE is excited to welcome Susan Ganter in August, 2015. Susan is joining
Virginia Tech from East Carolina University, where she has been a professor and chair of the
Department of Mathematics, Science, and Instructional Technology Education. Her research interests
include development of mathematics curricula that maximize student learning across disciplines. She
earned her PhD in Mathematics Education in Mathematics Education and her MA in Applied
Mathematics from University of California, Santa Barbara, and two Bachelor degrees from Southern
Methodist University - one in Mathematical Sciences and one in Music Education. Previous
administrative and academic positions include Clemson University, Centers of Ocean Sciences
Educational Excellence, Association for Women in Science, American Association for Higher Education,
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, National Science Foundation, California State University, San
Bernardino, Rim of the World High School, Pacific High School and Western Washington University.
