Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculation
1. Convert the letter grades to grade points.
(A = 4, A- = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3, B- = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2, C- = 1.67, D+ = 1.33, D = 1,
D- = 0.67, F = 0)
2. Then multiply the grade points by the number of credit hours attempted for each corresponding
course. The product will give you the number of quality points earned for each course. A
student’s GPA is calculated by diving the total earned quality points by the credit total hours (i.e.
GPA hours) attempted.

The below example is based on the grade(s) that the student believes they will earn:
1.
Total Quality Points from Previous Semester(s)
=

Quality Points Earned from 1st time through Course(s) 3*__
*From COM 160 (0 Quality Points) and FST 210 (3 Quality Points)
Total Quality Points
2.
=
4___
Add Quality Points from the second time the course(s) were taken. Example grades for 2nd time
through courses: Earned a B- in COM 160 and a C+ in FST 210.*
Total Quality Points from Step #1
=
4___
Quality Points Earned from 2nd time through Course(s) +
*COM 160, B- = 2.67. 2.67 x 3 (number of credits) = 8.01
FST 210, C+ = 2.33. 2.33 x 3 (number of credits) = 6.99
Add both courses together. 8.01 + 6.99 = 15
