Bringing Innovation to Light: Translating Marine Science into Products and Services with Deborah A. Mosca, Ph.D. Chief Executive Officer, Marine Bio-Technologies Center of Innovation With more than 80% of living organisms found in aquatic ecosystems and biochemical analysis of many just beginning, the Marine Biotechnology sector is poised to make an impact on many industries. “Marine Biotechnology” is unique, for unlike other forms of biotechnology, it can be defined either in terms of its source material or the market it serves. North Carolina is a coastal state with a wealth of natural resources and human capital invested in marine science. The MBCOI will leverage that reputation and serve as an advocate of the state’s marine-related resources to further increase awareness of North Carolina as a primary place to consider for Marine Bio-Technology business. Headquartered in Wilmington, North Carolina, MBCOI combines a regional focus with a global perspective to facilitate collaboration on emerging marine biotechnologies between researchers, industry, and funding organizations to commercialize new scientific discoveries. To reserve seats, call the Center for Marine Science at 910-962-2301. For driving directions and more information about CMS: www.uncw.edu/cms As the Chief Executive Officer of the Marine Bio-Technologies Center of Innovation, Dr. Deborah Mosca brings more than 30 years of experience to MBCOI, having served in roles of increasing responsibility in various organizations including biotech (PaxVax, Nereus, Elitra, IntraBiotics), non-profit research (The Scripps Research Institute) and large Pharma (American Cyanamid/Lederle Labs).
