with Tracy Skrabal
Manager, Southeast Regional Office
North Carolina Coastal Federation
North Carolina Coastal Federation works to protect and restore coastal water
quality and habitats throughout the N.C. coast by collaborating with, and
engaging people from all walks of life who are committed to preserving the
coast for current and future generations. Since 1982, the Coastal Federation,
with the help of volunteers, has protected and restored more than 50,000
acres along the coast. Making a direct human connection with the natural
coast is a vital part of the Coastal Federation’s education, advocacy, and
restoration efforts.
Tracy Skrabal joined the Coastal Federation in 1996
and leads the southeast regional office in Wrightsville
Beach. She holds a Master of Science degree in
geological oceanography and a Bachelor of Science in
geology from the College of William and Mary. Having
held positions with the Delaware Department of
Natural Resources and Environmental Control and as a
private consultant, Tracy has accumulated more than
three decades of experience in coastal policy and
advocacy, and the design and implementation of coastal restoration projects.
Tracy will discuss current coastal environmental challenges facing North
Carolina, and efforts to address these issues. Topics will include improving the
North Carolina economy through coastal restoration, protecting water quality by
decreasing polluted runoff, advocating for compatible industrial development in
the coastal zone, and protecting our oceanfront
and inlet beaches for public uses and to
maintain their natural functions. Skrabal will
introduce the Coastal Federation’s 2016
campaign strategy to protect and restore our
shared coastal resources, and offer many
opportunities for people to make meaningful
contributions to the protection of North
Carolina’s coast.
