Simulation of the Nitrification Process in Wastewater Treatment using Fuzzy Logic P. Ramdewor, V. Soneechur, S. Kishnah and S. Pudaruth Abstract—The Nitrification process in wastewater treatment is one whereby two particular aerobic bacteria – Nitrosomonas and Nirobacter – are used to biodegrade dissolved ammonia in the effluent to produce nitrate compounds. This decomposition process comprises of several components that interact together mutually changing their magnitude and consequently affecting the bacterial population. In this paper, a simulation of the nitrification process using Fuzzy Logic is described. The resultant application is a comprehensive system that approaches the real life model, providing a clear insight of the biodegradation process during nitrification. Experts can use the software to optimise the process in order to maintain a healthy nitrification to remove nitrogenous matter from the wastewater more efficiently.
