INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT UNCW “I am an international freshman at UNCW, earning a double major in International Business and Computer Science. I am also a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, Surfrider Foundation, Sailing Club and Water Ski Club. I chose UNCW because Daniel O. before applying, I did a lot of research on colleges and found out that UNCW has a from Hungary double majoring in Computer Science great International Business program with an enormous number of study abroad options. and International Business I think that even though we international students are already studying abroad, it is important to continue the exploration of the world and UNCW is a great partner for that! UNCW is a great partner in many other ways. The professors are fantastic; they are there for students when you need them, and they have an open door policy. That means if their office door is open, you can just drop by and ask questions or ask for help with your assignments. UNCW is really flexible with helping you create your schedule. If you like morning classes, you can do that; if you like evening classes better, you can do that. And if you are daring enough to attempt something like double majoring in computer science and international business, they will help you with that too! The student body is very welcoming and after your first day here, I am 100 percent certain you will be in love with the people, the beautiful weather, the campus, and all the surroundings. It can become a new home for you as it became a new home for me.” Sutheeda S. from Thailand majoring in International Business Atsushi U. from Japan majoring in Film Studies “I thought I would transfer to UNC Chapel Hill after I was done with my ESL program here at UNCW; however, after being in different classes and meeting the professors I changed my mind. I love the campus environment and classroom environment. Professors here are very understanding and always willing to help students.” “There are two main reasons why I decided to apply to University of North Carolina Wilmington. First and foremost I believed UNCW could provide me a lot of opportunities to learn film production because they have one of the top film departments in the U.S. The second reason is its location. Wilmington, North Carolina is famous for a locale of movie and TV drama production and they have a film studio. Moreover, there is a beach and downtown near the campus. It only takes 10 to 15 minutes to get there. I am also glad to live in the dormitory, International House, because the students who live there are from different countries. They stimulate me with their different opinions and perspectives.” INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT UNCW Kai C. from Sweden There were a number of things I considered when looking at colleges. I was looking for a place that had a great biology, marine biology and environmental science program, a place that wasn’t located in a city, and a place where I could build relationships with the professors. UNCW met all those criteria. When I attended high school at Berkshire School in Massachusetts I was kept very busy with activities. I wanted to make sure there would be plenty of things for me to do at college. Specifically, I wanted a school where I could play hockey or surf; UNCW enabled me to do both by having a good ice hockey team and by being located near the beach. The wide range of clubs and activities the university offered was something that was important to me. When I went through the application process, the people I dealt with were very friendly and helpful; I contacted other schools that didn’t seem to care, or have time for me. What helped me make my final choice was my visit to the school. I loved the campus, the professors I met with were friendly and I got to meet with the heads of the departments I was interested in majoring in. From the moment I set foot on campus, I felt extremely welcomed and sensed a relaxed vibe; ultimately my on-campus visit helped me make the decision to attend UNCW. Now, almost four years later, I am still in awe of the relaxed and friendly atmosphere this campus has—I am so glad I chose to attend UNCW. double majoring in Biology and Environmental Science Kairi B. from Germany double majoring in Marketing and Spanish “Well, I heard about UNCW because both the director of my high school in Prague and one of my good friends from Holland have houses here. They told me a lot about the city and both of them absolutely love it here. They love the restaurants and the great access to downtown and the beaches. In addition, the tuition is, as compared to most other states, relatively cheap. I also knew that North Carolina has one of the best public school education systems in the United States. ” FOR MORE INFORMATION Visit www.uncw.edu/admissions or www.uncw.edu/international to learn more about the international admission process.
