DP/kc MEMO TO: Prof. Trever Crowe Associate Dean, College of Graduate Studies and Research FROM: Dr. Bruce Reeder Co-Leader, University of Saskatchewan One Health Initiative Professor, College of Medicine CC: Ms. Kelly Clement Programs Assistant, College of Graduate Studies and Research DATE: 20 May 2015 RE: Graduate Certificate in One Health - admission requirements On behalf of the Program Committee for the One Health Certificate, I wish to request the following change to the admission requirements for the program: removal of the requirement that the student be enrolled in a thesis-based Masters or PhD program. Admission requirements would otherwise remain unchanged and thereby read: • • • • Students must be registered in the College of Graduate Studies and Research in a thesis-based Master's or Ph.D. program. A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (U of S grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study is required. Language Proficiency Requirements: Proof of English proficiency may be required for international applicants and for applicants whose first language is not English. See the College of Graduate Studies and Research Academic Information and Policies in this Catalogue for more information. Applicants will submit the following documents in the admission package: o Transcripts o Letter of intent o Curriculum vitae o Approval of the graduate student supervisory committee The selected candidates will undergo an interview by the admission panel of the Program Committee. Rationale: In the program, students enhance their skills in collaborative problem-solving and interdisciplinary knowledge integration. They do so using interactive problem-based learning methods to examine current complex One Health issues. It has been our experience that the effectiveness of this approach is enhanced by engaging students from diverse academic disciplines and from research as well as applied professional programs. The Program Committee has received admission inquiries from otherwise qualified graduate students in course-based Masters degrees. We feel that the program would be enhanced by the participation of these students in such programs as the Master of Public Health, Master of Sustainable Environmental Management, and Master of Public Administration. Therefore, the Committee requests that the requirement for enrollment in a thesis-based graduate program be dropped, while all other admission requirements remain unchanged. Thank you for considering this request! Bruce A. Reeder MD, MHSc, FRCPC Professor
