While working as an assistant vice president, business relationship manager for PNC Bank in the Raleigh-Durham area, this
2003 Cameron School of Business graduate contuniues to show his Seahawk pride! Chris Frederick '03 currently volunteers
his time to serve as the President of the Alumni Triangle Chapter Steering Committee and is also a member of the Alumni
Association Board of Directors. We enjoyed getting to know him a little more by reading his responses below:
What do you love most about UNCW?
I really enjoyed the class room sizes and professors at UNCW (special shout out to Dr. Burrus). UNCW's small classroom
sizes allow the professors to give individual attention to each student. This includes extra sessions outside of the schedule
classroom times.
What organizations were you a part of as a student?
Kappa Alpha Psi, NPHC, WLOZ (UNCW radio station), ACE, Campus Judicial Board, Student Housing (Desk Receptionist at
the dorms), Black Student Union
How did UNCW prepare you for your career?
My classes in Cameron School of Business gave me a firm foundation of the skill sets I use everyday in the banking industry.
The roles I held in the organizations above, enhanced my communication and leadership skills. UNCW gave me the
opportunity to learn how to guide a variety of personalties to one common goal, which is a trait that can benefit you in any
professions.
What is your favorite place on the UNCW Campus?
When I was on campus my favorite place was the Student Union. The student union was a relaxing environment that allowed
students to study, eat, or just socialize in between classes. I was good at the socializing aspect. It gave me time to joke
around with friends, that I still keep in contact with ten years later.
What is your favorite memory from UNCW?
The basketball team making the NCAA tournament. The tone at the University and around town was electric. It also comes
with the expense of the painful memory, when University of Maryland beat UNCW on a buzzard beater.
How do you stay connected with UNCW?
I stay connected with UNCW by being involved in the local UNCW Alumni Chapter. I've been active in two different chapters
and both were great!
What has motivated your generous and loyal support?
I give back to UNCW because the institution supplied me with priceless skills, experiences, and memories that you can't put a
price on. I'm excited every time I get the opportunity to assist future Seahawks in accomplishing the same.
What would you say to encourage other alumni to make an annual gift to UNCW?
It's one to say you love your alam-mater and the time you attended. But, the ultimate way to express those feelings is to give
back and help our beautiful University continue to grow and develop great leaders of tomorrow. Giving back is how most great
Universities are able to sustain and increase their creditability. I personally think UNCW can compete with any school in the
state. So I do my part to assist in the efforts. Remember every little bit helps.
