UNCW is an engaged and engaging partner in southeastern NC, the state, and globally 2. University engagement activities are encouraged, financially supported, and celebrated 3. University monitors engagement and promotes awareness of impact of engagement activities 4. University supports coordinated, quality engagement by faculty, staff, and students 5. University creates and implements strategic plan and monitors implementation and effectiveness UNCW is an engaged and engaging partner for projects in se NC, state, and globally • University is seen by more stakeholders as a valuable and invested partner to address community, regional, state, and global needs and interests • University works with students, faculty, and local community members to facilitate economic development in the Cape Fear region • Coordinate university services to provide event information, directions, signage, and ease of parking for cultural & athletic facilities which host large numbers of community guests • Support services units (like conference services, tech support, etc.) are funded and organized in such away that they encourage and support the development of engagement on and off campus Engagement activities are encouraged, financially supported, and celebrated by UNCW • Identify and nominate faculty, staff, and student internal and external awards that recognize engagement activities that have an especially successful community impact • Create a pool of funds to support community engagement activities on and off campus and to facilitate strategic community partnerships • Recognize important community partners who engage in projects that enhance faculty productivity and student learning University monitors engagement and promotes awareness of positive impact of engagement activities • Create new processes for input and feedback regarding community needs, interventions, and engagement project outcomes • Training implemented for faculty, staff, and students to assess needs and collect feedback from community partners • Faculty trained on engaging students in applied research, and turning engaged pedagogy into publishable research • Impact survey template available for faculty, staff, and student use on select survey University monitors engagement and promotes awareness of positive impact of engagement activities • Develop system to coordinate information about community engagement activities that feeds into annual reviews for faculty and staff, and student portfolios for students • Put system in place to list community members who serve on advisory committees for academic units, research and engagement centers, and student affairs units • Create and implement standard designations in Banner for service learning and community engagement courses University supports coordinated, quality engagement by faculty, staff, and students • Staff engagement office to support engagement in teaching, research, and service • Develop and disseminate policy and procedure information to support engagement • Redesign engagement website for faculty, staff, students • Vet policies and procedures with university offices and advisory board • Redesign financial processes to facilitate quick process for (nonfederal, non-research) contracts/grants • Re-examine process of inter-office charges for university services UNIVERSITY SUPPORTS COORDINATED, QUALITY ENGAGEMENT BY FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS • Create office as hub for continuing and professional education activities throughout the university • Coordinate K-12 student group visits on campus for recruitment events, educational activities, cultural activities, and athletic events • Enhance, improve visibility, and strengthen the Engage SENC website (developed by CHHS, Q.E.N.O., United Way, Urban Institute) to match community needs and faculty expertise • Seek additional funding to support student staffing • Market website to faculty, staff, students, and community UNIVERSITY CREATES AND IMPLEMENTS STRATEGIC PLAN AND MONITORS IMPLEMENTATION AND EFFECTIVENESS • Create, vet, and implement Strategic Plan • Strategic plan is vetted by all constituencies • Structure is defined to execute and assess progress on strategic plan • Build in strong annual performance evaluations for all employees that supports the strategic plan goals
