To equip them to critically analyse issues related to the language and literature. General Entry Requirements In accordance with the University General Entry Requirements for admission to undergraduate degree programmes. 3. Programme Requirements A post 'A' Level MGI Diploma in the subject or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the MGI/UoM. 4. Programme Duration Normal 2 years (part-time) 5. Maximum 4 years (part-time) Minimum Credits Required For Degree Award – 105 The MGI Diploma already accounts for 60 credits For award of the B.A (Hons) Telugu, the student must obtain 45 credits, along with 60 credits earned from the Diploma, which makes a total of 105 credits. Dissertation 6. 60 33 3 9 105 Assessment Each module will be assessed over 100 marks and will be as follows unless otherwise specified: • Assessment will be based on a written examination of 2 to 3 hours’ duration (normally a paper of 2 hours’ duration for modules carrying three credits, and 3 hours’ papers for modules carrying six credits) and on continuous assessment done during the semester/year. • The written examination will carry 70% of the total marks and continuous assessment will carry 30% of the total marks unless otherwise stated. • Continuous assessment may be based on seminars and/or assignment/s and should include at least 1 class test. • Candidates will have to score a minimum of 30% in each component: continuous assessment and written examination with an overall total of 40% to pass a module. 1 7. Selected texts will be studied. TEL 2005Y(3) - LITERARY APPRECIATION AND CRITICISM This module will focus on the study of the principles and theories of literary criticism as applied to Telugu Literature. Students will be initiated to Telugu literary appreciation through a selection of texts. TEL3002Y(5) - TELUGU PROSE (NON-FICTION) In this module students will study various forms of Telugu prose of non-fiction viz: essays, letters, travelogues, biographies etc from famous authors. TEL 2003Y(3) - THEORY AND PRACTICE OF TRANSLATION This module will focus on the various theories, techniques of translation and the various forms of translation. It will also provide the students the opportunity to practise translation of a variety of literary texts and other works such as interviews, reports, advertisements, messages and other documents. For outline of GEM, see list offered by MGI/UoM 2 YEAR II TEL 3026Y(3) - HISTORY OF ANDHRAS AND THE TELUGU CULTURE This module will provide the students with knowledge of the history of the Andhras, the Andhra state, Andhra rulers, temples, arts, folklore, monuments, festivals, traditions and other aspects of their cultural life. TEL 4103(3) - SANSKRIT GRAMMAR (TELUGU) This module briefly introduces the student to the basics of Sanskrit Grammar and its usage in ancient Telugu Poetry. TEL 5102(5) - TELUGU ESSAY This module introduces the contribution of this genre in the development of Telugu Literature. Study of some selected essays. TEL 3000Y(5) - DISSERTATION The dissertation, equivalent to 9 credits, will be of about 8,000 to 12,000 words on an approved topic by the department. 3
