COMPENSATION stuff
Report for Competitive Compensation
Committee to Staff Assembly
March 17, 2015
The Competitive Compensation Committee was charged to
prepare a report on the status of faculty and staff compensation at Winthrop University by Acting President Boyd in
November 2014. The committee’s report is due to Dr. Boyd
by April 15, 2015.
Committee Charge
The CCC has been charged with conducting a compensation
review of all University employees, identifying internal and
external comparison groups, providing analyses with dependent and independent variables, and making a recommendation for adoption of a compensation program that will cover
all faculty and staff members.
Committee work groups are in the process of collecting comparative data sources and reviewing compensation plans employed by other higher education institutions. The College
and University Personnel Association for Human Resources
(CUPA-HR) is a recognized authority on compensation surveys in higher education and will serve as the primary comparative data source for most of the faculty and administrative
positions, as well as a number of staff positions. The CCC is
also gathering data sources from local and regional agencies to
use in the study of staff compensation.
The CCC report submitted in April will inform university
leadership in the development of a compensation program
to be implemented over the next 3 to 5 years and will make
recommendations on the assessment of such a program.

STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH: February
David Rollings, ‘03
Assistant Director for Transfer Recruitment in Admissions
What makes Winthrop special to you?
The sense of community I have always felt, as both a student
and staff member, is what makes Winthrop such a special
place. It is such a pleasure to work with such committed and
caring professionals. This feeling is often cited by many of
our prospective students as one of the reasons they decided
to attend Winthrop. It is
something that is unique and
authentic to our campus.
What drives you every day to
make such a big difference?
The Admissions Office is often
the first interaction our students have with the University;
therefore, I strive to do my
best work so that Winthrop can be seen in a positive light. I
also try to provide excellent service and assistance to my colleagues so that they can provide a positive experience to our
future students and families.
Please nominate today via the nomination form or link from
our Facebook page. If you have any questions, contact Recognition Committee Chair Emily Tobin.
STAFF ASSEMBLY stuff
The Staff Assembly serves as an advisory group that provides staff with a forum for communication and community and provides a voice in
matters of importance and concern to staff. The group offers opportunities for staff to support one another, participate as a group in community outreach and engagement, and make recommendations to the university’s president and the administration in support of staff needs
and the university’s mission.
Please e-mail staffassembly@winthrop.edu with any questions or suggestions you may have. If you would prefer the option of contacting the
assembly anonymously, please complete the online Staff Feedback Form via a non-Winthrop computer.
