The University of Montana Office of International Programs in collaboration with Missoula County Public Schools,
proudly present the second:
Global Competence Summer Academy
August 10 & 11, 2015
Two Full-Day Cross-Cultural
Skill-Building Seminars for
K-12 Teachers and Administrators.
The first Global Competence Summer Academy
(GCSA) last summer was attended by more than 35
MCPS teachers. Due to the positive feedback from
participants, and an increase in requests, UM’s Global
Gateway Program will reprise the training in 2015.
The 2015 GCSA is a joint partnership between the
UM Phyllis J. Washington College of Education and
Human Sciences and Missoula County Public Schools
as part of the SHAPE P-20 Initiative.
• Combining timely, relevant and accessible
material with powerful and inspired presentation.
• Incorporating a combination of interactive
presentations, discussions, small group breakout
sessions and individualized feedback.
• Providing a stimulating forum for educators
and administrators of all disciplines, grade- and
experience levels to inspire the culturally diverse
classroom and foster the development of global
citizenship in K-12 learners.
The seminars will focus on the areas of pedagogy and
curriculum:
•Aid instructors in developing a teaching strategy
that supports the changing demographic in
today’s classroom.
•Assist educators in infusing their courses with
cross-cultural and global perspectives.
Developing global competence does not mean
learning endless facts about a great many cultures,
but rather understanding how cultures shape beliefs,
values, attitudes, communication and collaboration.
As a result, a pedagogy to teach global content with
international perspectives, for a culturally diverse
classroom, will become easier to plan, structure and
implement.
