From its humble beginning in 1886 as the normal school for South Carolina, Winthrop has recognized the importance of music in the education and day-to-day lives of its students. Even today, over 400 Winthrop students perform in our 25 ensembles. Together with faculty and guest artists, they provide well over 100 performances annually in four performance venues on campus.
