Communication:
Chair Erickson thanked the committee members for attending the meetings with the
graduate dean candidates. The Search Committee will be meeting on Friday morning and
hopes to forward a recommendation to the Provost on acceptable candidates.
Business Items:
Curriculum review – Social Science follow-up
There is concern that the title reflects a change in scope of the PhD and should include an
additional program revision proposal. The Chair of the department will be invited to a
meeting to respond to:
How the title change is consistant with the PhD program approved by the Board
of Regents;
whether the new title reflects an expansion of the program’s mission;
what faculty members are involved with the program.
LING 471: graduate increment received was acceptable. Course was approved.
LING 472: documentation received lacks specificity for graduate increment and includes
a questionable grading policy. Sub-committee is requesting further clarification.
Curriculum review – Humanities
The items on the summary were approved with the exception of DRAM UG 307, ENLT
UG 381, HIST UG 353, HIST UG 376, and PHIL 504. Camie will request that the UG
course instructors consider changing the course to a 400 number. The course form for
PHIL 504 Topics in Environmental Philosophy will be sent to EVST for a signature.
Program Review - History
The Council discussed the program review document for History. The self-study was
missing information regarding the new PhD program and did not include several faculty
members’ CVs. In addition, the data was provided by Provost’s Office, not the
department. The Council will request that the information be provided in order to
complete the review.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
