Title: Director of Business Intelligence and Data Management (BIDM)

Winthrop University’s Department of Accreditation, Accountability, and Academic Services (AAAS) seeks an accomplished, innovative and highly skilled individual to serve as Director of Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Management (DM). Reporting to the Vice Provost for Administration the selected individual will be responsible for leading the unit’s collaborative efforts with Information Technology to enhance the

University’s capacity to store, access, and facilitate dissemination of data and information needed for effective decision-making.

Primary Responsibilities:

Leading efforts within AAAS to help envision and implement a business intelligence strategy aimed at meeting the university’s reporting needs related to students and retention, census, faculty data, and web-based analytics.

Overseeing the enhancement of WebFOCUS reporting within the unit in order to fulfill data reporting needs for AAAS and student service campus units.

Creating innovative ways to display data for regular internal review including the development and implementation of dashboards and/or other data viewing tools including web-based applications.

Working with the Director of Decision Support to design a comprehensive data storage, extraction and cleaning process to enable accurate and timely reporting.

Collaborating with IT, other AAAS staff, and campus end users, to facilitate the integration of data from transactional sources within Banner and within developing data warehouses.

Supervising programming staff and project management of programming requests.

Additional Responsibilities:

Responsible for informing and helping to implement data strategy including enterprise data architecture, business intelligence, data warehousing, meta data management, enterprise data integration, DB modeling and DB design.

Responsible for design, development, deployment, maintenance, enhancement, business socialization of Data Management, architecture, all aspects of enterprise business intelligence & data warehouse, enterprise data integration strategy.

Directs survey research initiatives managed by AAAS, including collaboration on questionnaire development, evaluation, and field-testing using a variety of statistical procedures to evaluate data.

Develops and continuously refines data management vision and roadmap (both functional and technical) for data warehousing and BI solutions, aligning to university priorities.

Possesses, develops, and applies knowledge of trends, value and use of data warehousing / BI applications, and closely follows the evolution of business models and organizational priorities.

Ensures data assets are effectively managed across the enterprise.

 Partners with University divisions to create and maintain accountability for Winthrop’s overall

Enterprise Data Strategy, Data Governance, Business Intelligence, as well as Data Analytics and

Reporting.

Directs the modernization of analytic capabilities, processes and practices for Winthrop’s Department of Accreditation, Accountability, and Academic Services. This includes resource planning, allocation and forecasting, mentoring, and coaching.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or related field and higher education teaching experience preferred.

Experience:

Two or more years of technology-related experiences within an institution of higher learning.

Experience in building/evolving BI & Data Management solutions across multiple business areas.

Deep understanding of BI, analytics, integration & data governance.

Experience in data warehousing tools, ETL/reporting, middleware.

Experience with implementing data management strategies.

Experience with supervision, project management, and team building.

Experience with Qualtrics, SAS, Blackboard Learn and Analytics, Banner SIS, and Activity insight helpful.

Specific Qualifications Include:

Ability to drive multiple initiatives, programs and run both strategy and operations.

Ability to influence and manage relationships across the institution even where no direct line of reporting exists.

Strong leadership capabilities, being able to motivate, rally and build high-performing teams.
