Emphasis is on the organization of information resources in print and non-print formats. Includes the philosophy, tools, and the techniques for performing cataloging. Repeatable for credit: No Pre-Enrollment Criteria: Prerequisite: LIBRA 1101 Introduction to Libraries and the Information Age with a grade of "C" or better, or equivalent. A. General Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to do the following: 1. Prepare descriptive cataloging for selected print and non-print materials using Anglo-American Cataloging (AACR2) Rules. 2. Assign subject headings and Dewey Decimal classification numbers to selected print materials and non-print materials. 3. Perform copy cataloging by transcribing data onto cataloging worksheets from printed sources such as Book Publishers Record and Cataloging In Publication, and automated bibliographic data bases such as OCLC and LC MARC (Library of Congress Machine Readable Cataloging). 4. Add and delete copies in both a manually filed card catalog and shelf list catalog and an automated database. 5. Explain how cards are manually created and filed in some libraries today and relate the techniques to online cataloging. 6. Identify the steps required to process print and non-print materials for circulation and process one book for circulation in the technical service area of a library. 7. Identify technical conditions that indicate when it is necessary to refer a cataloging problem to a librarian or supervisor. 8.
