Please return all library books to school today. Friday 12/11 Math Problem of the Month The purpose of the SCE Math Problem of the Month is to encourage students to work on problems that make them feel successful, enjoy math, persevere, and problem solve at home. I am so proud of Collin (from the PM class) for being SCE’s kindergarten winner in November! December problems can be turned in anytime between now and 12/18. We hope you choose to participate and have some fun with math! You do NOT need to sign in to access this. If you are prompted to sign in, just select the “December” link from the options on the left side of the page. https://scepom.wiki.dublinschools.net/Dece mber+2015+Math+Problem+of+the+Month Please sign your child’s Progress Report envelope and return it to school if you have not done so already. I will save these to use again later this year. Thank you! December 4, 2015 “Big Kid” Buddies Both classes got to spend time with their big kid buddies this week. The morning class met with their 2nd grade friends from Mrs. Hurto’s class and the afternoon class met with their 5th grade friends from Miss Brunst’s class. We read Bear Feels Scared by Karma Wilson. Then the kids got to play “APPLE” bingo with their buddies. The students did a great job listening and working together. Ask your child to tell you about his or her buddy. _______________________________ Coming Up in December… We have lots of learning work to do in the next two weeks before winter break. One of the things I am most excited about is our gingerbread unit. Kindergarten students are learning to identify characters, settings, and major events in a story. We will be reading lots of different versions of the Gingerbread Man and will use what we are learning about characters, settings, and major events to discuss similarities and differences in the stories. We will bake our own gingerbread man and then use a computer program called “Pixie” to write a class book about our experience. We have been working hard to learn when to use a period, question mark, or an exclamation point. We will work together to edit our writing to make sure we include punctuation at the end of each sentence. We are going to be diving into the measurement and data standards in math, and we will be incorporating math into our gingerbread unit as well. It should be fun!
