This week in Reading Workshop, we focused on features of nonfiction text (captions, titles, subtitles & vocabulary boxes). After reading an article about a 12 year old Jazz musician, Joey Alexander, we discussed strategies for deciding if a statement was a fact or an opinion. Write an example of 1 fact and 1 opinion from the article! Show someone at home a clip on You-tube of Joey Alexander playing his music! In math we continued to focus on problem solving and breaking apart numbers. We went outside and drew oversized number lines with sidewalk chalk to help us figure out what are some “friendly/landmark” numbers. This helps us to round and better be able to do mental math computation. We also worked on ordering and comparing numbers. Order these numbers from least to greatest: 3,876: 3,786: 3,678 During “Share Time,” Lily called on some volunteers to act out a story she wrote! nnn In Social Studies, we talked about the Preamble of the United States Constitution. We focused on the “Big Words” as they are written in this document and then translated them into “Kid Words.” Tell someone at home about the Preamble.
