What’s new in Room 216?
MRS. O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS
z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z
Our class ate all the parts
of a plant this week! Do
you know which of these
are stems, roots, seeds,
flowers and fruits?
Check out our
“Digital, Cultural Self
Portrait” display!

In Reading Workshop we worked on sequencing nonfiction events. We talked about how to use key words and
chronological order within a text to help us when trying to
sequence multiple facts. We also set weekly Reading Goals
for ourself so that we can begin to self monitor our stamina,
books selection and fluency skills. These goals are kept in
our Reading Journal and Mrs. O’Connor is meeting with
each of us to check on our progress as well!
Our focus this week in Math has been on patterns within
multiplication facts. We focused on 0, 1, 2, 5, 9, 10, and 11.
We played a variety of games and completed activities that
not only helped us to visualize these patterns, but apply
them to problem solving as well! Show someone at home
the finger trick we learned to remember the multiples of 9!
What do all the multiples of 5 end with? What is a really
fast and easy way to remember the 10’s and 11’s?
In Science we began our study of plants! We created a
puzzle that specifically highlighted the 6 most important
parts of a plant & the role that each of these parts has in
the plant’s survival. We also realized that many of the
foods we eat are plant parts! Tell someone at home about
our classroom, plant tasting!
