Who is Miss Fiestas Patrias Miss Fiestas Patrias is a young lady of the Mexican decent in great academic standings. She aspires to pursue further education, to be a role model, holds and portrays leadership skills and qualities. Miss Fiestas Patrias acknowledges the commitment to her educational and professional goals as well as to the community she serves. Miss Fiestas Patrias Academic Program She is a young lady with respectful and honorable traits. She is well spoken, ambitious and mature in her actions. Miss Fiestas Patrias is confident in herself and recognizes the responsibility that comes with being a public figure that represents the city and county. She is aware that the position requires discipline, diplomacy and respect. Most of all, she is a dynamic, young woman who wishes to pursue higher education, serve her community and become enriched along the way! The Mexican Cultural Center of DuPage assists in guiding the Miss Fiestas Patrias Academic Pageant participants in empowering young women to achieve their personal & professional goals. The Mexican Cultural Center of DuPage believes that in order to connect with the community at large, community involvement is necessary in order to effectively become one with the community and make a difference. Many activities throughout the course are required and expected from participants of Miss Fiestas Patrias. Participating in Miss Fiestas Patrias helps you pay for college and prepare for a career. It also provides an opportunity to gain additional life experience. You will be working on issues of importance to society, enhancing your personal and professional skills. Finally, this program helps many young woman your age to gain more self-esteem. Previously, the Mexican Cultural Center of DuPage participated in various community events held in DuPage. Some were St. Mary’s Maryfest, West Chicago Annual Leaf Raking for the elderly, the Simple Gifts Foundation and many more. For More Information Contact: Fabiola Garcia at garfab0409@hotmail.com REQUIREMENTS All Miss Fiestas Patrias Scholarship Pageant applicants are to carefully read the following list of requirements: • I must have at least one parent of Mexican ethnicity and would be able to submit proof if necessary. • I can speak, write and read English and Spanish. • I am a natural born female between 17 and 22 years of age. (If under 18 years old, the applicant's parents or legal guardian must also sign the application. You must be at least 17 years old at time of application and no more than 22 on the night of the pageant. • I reside in the State of Illinois. If I am not a native of DuPage County, my current town cannot have a Pageant and/or Committee in the city in which I live and will be able to provide proof if necessary. Additionally, I will be able to attend practices and events held by the Mexican Cultural Center. • I am a student in academic good standing at a high school, university or college (no current F grades) and am attaching a copy of my transcript with this application. • I demonstrate high moral values; including, but not limited to, being single, never have lived with or currently living with a partner, never been pregnant. I must not be living with a man/woman who is not a member of my family (boyfriend, fiancé, etc.). I am not a member of, or affiliated with a street gang, nor do I use drugs or engage myself in underage alcohol consumption and/or alcohol abuse. • I will represent my Mexican state and learn about its history, culture, demographics, and tourist attractions. In addition, I will memorize the Mexican National Anthem. • I agree to attend a mandatory orientation, date to be determined. • If elected Queen, I promise to promote the Mexican Cultural Center the following year by making all personal appearances detailed in the Official Calendar during my reign as determined by the Committee. • If elected Queen, I agree to make no substantial changes to my personal appearance during the course of my reign (1 year). In ex: cosmetic surgery. • I agree the decision of the judges is final and not subject to appeal. • I agree not to participate in any other pageant during my enrollment in the Miss Fiestas Patrias program; not hold any other Queen title neither during the contest nor during my reign. • During my reign as Miss Fiestas Patrias, I will continue to maintain good academic standing and demonstrate high moral values, as set forth above. • In the event I violate any of the provisions of this agreement, the Mexican Cultural Center reserves the right, in its discretion, to remove me from the Program/Pageant or from the position of Queen and from placement on court, if I am chosen.
