APRIL-MAY 2016 MIZOK’S NEWS MATH Over the next several months the students will be solving problems involving the four operations, and identify and explain patterns in arithmetic. They will continue to practice recognizing perimeter and area. Students will make the connection between area, multiplication and addition. We will be representing and interpreting data, as well as, solving problems involving measurement and estimation of intervals of time, liquid, volumes and masses of objects. In addition, we will be reviewing previously taught content as we prepare for the upcoming Math AIR assessment scheduled for April 26th (75 minutes) and April 27th (75 minutes). In Science we will explore various types of energy, such as, light, heat and sound. Upcoming Field Trip Students will be given a unique opportunity to observe and record data on animal adaptations during our field trip to Glacier Ridge Metro Park on Monday, May 16th from 9:30 to 1:45. They will participate in activities, discussions and attend a hands-on center. Information was sent home detailing the trip. There is no cost to attend. Please return permission slips by Friday, April 15th. All students need to bring a disposable, nut-free lunch on the day of the trip. LANGUAGE ARTS Students have been working hard to We just finished Voyagers Project Alpha as our read aloud. The children have enjoyed our idiom study using this text. They are independently searching for idioms in their reading and explaining the difference between literal and non-literal language . We have also used this piece of literature to practice comprehension skills, explore vocabulary and make predictions. Our next read aloud will be Crime Cats (thanks Gianna for donating this autographed book to our classroom). We will be using events and character traits to help identify the theme in each chapter. publish an informational piece of writing on their chosen topic.
