Teaching Artists, Transforming Lives
Check-in at your residence hall from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. After
a short introductory meeting, you will break into studio groups by
“major” with your primary faculty instructor. The emphasis during
the first day is for faculty and counselors to get to know you. Come
prepared to play, connect, and have fun.
During the Week
You will work exclusively with UW-Stevens Point music faculty
for a minimum of four hours per day in your “major.” Additional
activities include large ensembles (band/choir/jazz ensemble/
string orchestra), chamber ensembles, theory/composition
sessions, and history/aesthetics seminars. Individual practice time
and recreation are also an important part of the daily schedule.
Camp counselors are UW-Stevens Point music majors who
assist campers throughout the week, and provide an insider’s
perspective about the life of a university music student. Faculty
and counselors join campers for evening activities including a
talent show and recital.

Unlike any other music camp in the state, our program is designed to give
you an immersion experience by providing concentrated study on your
primary instrument (or “major”) for a minimum of four hours per day.
Students will select one “major” for the week: violin, viola, double bass,
cello, voice, piano, guitar, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, oboe,
flute, saxophone, clarinet, percussion/drumset, or composition. Activities
will include daily master classes, warm-up exercises, group lessons,
chamber ensembles, supervised practice time, opera and musical theatre
scene workshops (vocalists only), and reed fixing class for woodwinds.
We’re Serious. Are You?
Our mission is to develop and nurture young musicians by helping them
discover new literature, techniques and ideas while fostering confidence
and enthusiasm. All camp instructors are UW-Stevens Point faculty,
ensuring the best possible learning environment for students who are
serious about music. No other camp in the state is exclusively staffed with
resident university faculty. Expand your knowledge and understanding of
music, develop long-lasting friendships and explore the vibrant university
community of UW-Stevens Point. Whether you are an instrumentalist, a
vocalist, or a composer, Camp COFAC is the place to be this summer.

teaching staff of more than four hundred creates a 22:1 student-to-faculty
ratio. UW-Stevens Point is a midsized public university located in the
heart of Wisconsin. You can expect a safe and friendly campus when
you get here.
Strings
Campers studying violin, viola, cello and double bass work with and
play side-by-side with Professors Bjella, Leviton, Beechey and Story
on a variety of technical and musical issues. Bowing, physical setup,
chamber music, as well as work on improvisation and less traditional
musical styles are covered. In addition to learning new music at camp,
students are asked to bring recently performed or in-progress pieces for
coaching.

the Aber Suzuki Center. Our programs are accredited by the National
Association of Schools of Music, the National Association of Schools
of Art and Design, the National Association of Schools of Dance, and
the National Association of Schools of Theatre. No other college in
Wisconsin is accredited by all four professional associations.

successfully start on the viola rather than starting first on the violin,
she has developed a strong pre-college studio whose members have
been accepted to schools such as Juilliard, Oberlin, and UW-Madison
among others. In the past, Dr. Beechey also designed and taught the
upper string pedagogy course for the Lawrence Conservatory of Music.
Steve Bjella (Violin, Viola)
Professor and Coordinator of Strings. He has performed throughout the
U.S., appearing both as soloist and in a variety of chamber ensembles.
He also enjoys making music with his colleagues in the Central
Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra and is concertmaster of the orchestra.

Professor of Cello. He has been active as a clinician and performer
throughout the country. He also teaches music in film, cello pedagogy,
music appreciation and coaches chamber music. He is a PastPresident of the Wisconsin Cello Society and his affiliations include
