WOMEN’S EQUALITY EXHIBITION TO DEBUT AT
NATIONAL CONSTITUTION CENTER
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 19, 2010) – Titled “From the Absence of Many
to the Presence of All,” a one-of-a-kind exhibit showcasing the uneven
journey of American women through history will soon open at the National
Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
The multi-faceted display, announced today at Washington, D.C.’s National
Press Club, will open in October in conjunction with a national assembly of
women for Vision 2020: An American Conversation about Women and
Leadership, launching a 10-year initiative to advance gender equality.
The exhibition will present the evolution of women’s progress in the United
States through a combination of images, statistics, video and artifacts and
objects and will be housed in Posterity Hall, a corridor that connects to
Signers’ Hall at the National Constitution Center.
"This is an exhibition that will excite and inspire a new generation of active
citizens who will carry on the legacy set forth by the suffragists to protect the
'We' in 'We the People,'" said National Constitution Center President and CEO
David Eisner.
Vision 2020 was created by Drexel University College of Medicine’s
Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership in Philadelphia. Co-chair
Lynn Yeakel heralded both the content and the site of the new exhibit as
“keenly significant to the acceleration of women’s long overdue leadership
influence in America.”
“The location of this breakthrough exhibit will be right next to Signers’ Hall,
a reminder that while no women were at the table in 1787, many of them have
sacrificed a great deal in pursuit of equal rights as citizens,” Yeakel said.
“What they’ve done and what remains to be done by today’s women – that
will be the twin focus of this exhibit.”
Vision 2020 has commissioned Remer & Talbott to curate the exhibit, which
has been underwritten by a grant from McDonald’s Corporation.

action agenda to move America toward equality by inspiring and engaging
new generations of women and men to finish the work of the suffragists, who
pursued women’s right to vote as fundamental to social and economic
justice. The centennial of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution will be
celebrated in 2020.
