Common field mountable internal accessories General characteristics Description Spectra Plus moulded case circuit breakers with microprocessor protection, are available in three and four pole versions. The Spectra Plus circuit breakers have individual rating plugs and enable protected distribution of electricity within a current range of 20A and 630A. Spectra Plus - Introduction 02 Current limiting The limiting capacity of a circuit breaker is the expression of the breaker’s capacity. In the event of a short circuit, it reduces the let through current to a lower value than the prospective fault current. 1 This characteristic is expressed by the following limiting curves: 1. Icc unlimited peak 2. Icc limited peak (actual) The great limiting capacity of Spectra Plus circuit breaker is a result of the optimal 2 combination of: ! A light moving part, reducing inertia. ! A strong current loop, to generate maximum force of repulsion. ! A slot motor with strong electro-magnetic field to accelerate the opening of the contact. ! ! Contact materials combining good conductivity and high durability. An arc chamber combining a high energy absorption capacity, speed in breaking of arc and cooling of gases. This combination has enabled an exceptional breaking capacity/volume ratio. The use of Spectra Plus circuit breaker enables a great reduction in stresses that normally develop during a short-circuit: ! Reduction in thermal constraints in conductors, increasing their life. ! Reduction in mechanical constraints due to the reduction of the electrodynamic forces of repulsion between conductors, which reduces the risk of deformation or rupture of the wiring. ! Reduction in electro-magnetic effects. The electro-magnetic field reduces and causes less damage to neighboring devices and sensors. Use Spectra Plus circuit breakers provide a solution for standard and high performance levels upto 50kA breaking capacity in 3 frames SE160, SF250 & SG400/630. Suitability for visible isolation Spectra Plus circuit breakers are ideal for fully visible isolation selection. With the handle free, the indication “open” (green display) is only possible when the main contacts are separated by a distance of >20mm. Spectra Plus circuit breaker conforms to standards: IEC947-3, IS13947-3 recommended for isolation. Double forward facing insulation Spectra Plus circuit breakers are provided with forward facing spaces designed for insertion of internal electrical auxiliaries. These spaces are completely insulated from the power circuit. Accreditation / Certification IEC947-2, EN60 947.2, IS13947, Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, RINA. 03 Spectra Plus - Introduction High performance electronic protection The current sensor output signal for each phase is sampled more than 30 times per cycle in order to establish the true RMS value, independent of the network, the nature of the load and the environment of the installation. Hence, Spectra Plus guarantees “correct protection”. Power source The power source can be connected either from upline or downline of the Spectra Plus circuit breaker, and up to the maximum voltage for use (690V). Orientation A fixed circuit breaker can be mounted as follows: Spectra Plus - Introduction Electrical auxiliaries BA bell alarms, AS auxiliary ‘ON/OFF’ switches, ST voltmetric shunt releases and UV undervoltage releases are common to all Spectra circuit breakers. e.g. an AS auxiliary ‘ON/OFF’ switch can be installed equally well on an SE 160 or SG 630 circuit breaker. Thus it is not necessary to specify the type of circuit breaker. Only the release voltage and the type of contact (standard or low level) has to be indicated with the order. Assembly As this is intended for installation in compartments that are accesssible from the front, it is not necessary to take off the cover of the circuit breaker. Left-hand compartment Option of connecting UV or ST releases plus 3 pole BA. 1 or 2 additional AS contacts can be connected to 4 pole SG400 to SG630 circuit breaker (an extra socket is provided for this). On each circuit breaker, ducts for the wiring are provided enabling the passage of the cables to the right, left, or to the rear side of the device, without increasing its original dimensions. Right-hand compartment Option of connecting 1 or 2 AS auxiliary switches.
