Anecdotal Comments 2011 Graduate Survey If your overall college experience (regardless of delivery mode) was unsatisfactory, why? • I found that many of the staff and faculty felt that PDCCC did not have anything to offer me since I had previously earned a BS & MS. I also discovered errors had been made between the Opp. Inc and the PDCCC's Financial Aid and Business offices. What could you not find (be as specific as possible) in the library? • Actually did not have to use the library often • Books to help me with my studies • Sometimes I could not find the appropriate materials in the library, but I could always find it in the online database. • I could find things using the online library, but often I needed a book and could NEVER find one in the PDCCC library. I often traveled to other universities to borrow their books and complete research papers. • HVAC national code book • Most times I used the internet from home • SCIENCE INFORMATION • I never used the library that much just the online and to me that was extremely confusing. I would rather get my information from somewhere else than to try and maneuver the library website • I never used the PDCCC library. I was able to find what I needed for assignments from the internet from home. • I did not use the library • I never went to the PDCCC library. • There were often not enough computers to use for research in the library. The students would benefit from a larger computer research area in the library. • many of the books, magazines and articles for research papers • It was hard to navigate through • There were books listed on the web site but when I reserved the book and went to pick them up, the book was not there...& they didn't know where the book was at either. If yes, what volunteer work have you done and how many hours per week? • 30 hours service learning through the nursing program at various places around the community • Tutoring • Service learning with the RN program 15 hours • Blood Pressure screenings, Bowling for Babies, dance at Zuni Presbyterian Home • I coached soccer for kids twice a week. • I helped during student appreciation week for about an hour and half. • 15 hours community service from May 2010 until May 2011. Teaching about prevention and treatment of hypertension along with blood pressure screening. • I volunteered at the Salvation Army for about 8-10 hrs. a week. • Not weekly, but i have volunteered for rescue groups around our area. • Adopt a spot clean up 4 times a year in Virginia Beach • Habitat of Humanity Avg. 2 hrs/week Mt. Carmel Christian Church food bank hrs. per month • 3-5 • I volunteer with a Hospice Agency; the hours depend on when I get a patient assignment. I have done four blood pressure drives in Suffolk as well. • In the Nursing program we were required too. it was 30 hours the entire 2 years. • Would have like to. Wish I could have done some community service while I was at PDCCC. Did not know about it. • I volunteer approximately one day a month at various organizations such as Habitat for Humanity & the Salvation Army. • Nursing Home- 1 hr/wk Children's Ministry- 3 hrs/wk • Nursing Home visits/provide music 1-2 hrs/wk Children's Ministry 3 hrs/wk • I do community service at my church. This would include participation in the choir, teaching Sunday school, help with church dinners and fundraisers. • Blood pressures, health screenings 30 hours all together • Information with regards to the Centerpoint Project. Spent last summer with someone that was terminal and did not wish to be hospitalized, we did have home health's help. • Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad. About 30-45 hours a week. • I have volunteered at my church, Suffolk P.H. and plan to do some volunteer work with the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. I have and plan to volunteer at least 2 hours a week. • 15 hour at Suffolk Literacy Council What suggestions do you have to improve the quality of College services? • Offer math 151 and 152 in the same semester • Expand the classes offered • I think that the library could stay open longer. Because I often studied in there and they close so early. So there was no other place to study that was quiet. • I don't have much except to give more explanation when it comes to the math problems. • more hands on with lab technology • Cafeteria or snack bar to support staff and student with long hours on campus. • Need more teaching staff to meet the students needs • None one just has to take advantage of what is offered • The college could use updated computers that will allow students to sign on much faster • My suggestions are to listen to what your professor has to say, take effective notes, and study. • Better hands on equipment • Offer courses that are required for all degree programs (such as public speaking & philosophy) during a wider range of times. • Improve the condition of equipment in Nurse Skill Labs • Invest in working equipment in the skills labs for the Nursing Departments. • I have no complaints about anything. I loved attending this college, and wish to come back for a second degree. • I think larger facilities and more classes / degree programs would be a nice improvement. • Review of teachers • Students need to be more informed about things that will help them to graduate & understand all requirements better.
