Program Modification Form I Summary of Proposed Changes Creative Pulse Graduate Program Department/program Currently the Creative Pulse Graduate program courses are distributed Summary between three departments: Art, Music and Theatre. Since the Creative Pulse is an integrated arts program this made sense when the program was first started; however the multiple subject listing is unnecessary, confusing to students and faculty and problematic for Moodle and grading. We are proposing a new, single subject for graduate program courses called “CP”. In addition, we are requesting a modification from two 5-week summers to two 4-week summers. To ensure the total number of credits and course work remain the same, CP staff will offer one online course and will modify the apprenticeship credits from one to two credits to better reflect the level of academic work required (see attached Course Form change). II Endorsements and Approvals Please obtain the Program Chair/Director’s approval and Dean’s approval. Please type / print name Signature Requestor: Phone: Program Chair/Director: Peggy Nesbitt X4971 Karen Kaufmann Department Dean Stephen Kalm Date Other affected Programs: (Use additional sheet if needed) Are other departments/programs affected by this Please obtain signature(s) from the modification because of Chair/Director of any such department/ (a) required courses incl. prerequisites or corequisites, program (above) before submission (b) perceived overlap in content areas (c) cross-listing of coursework III Type of Program Modification (e.g. adding a writing course required of all majors.) Please X check the appropriate box. Major Minor Option Teaching major/minor Other Please X Changing subject from ARTZ/MUSE/THTR to CP. describe All courses will remain the same, but the need to cross-list and develop a rubric to ensure each department is recognized, will be eliminated. This does not require any content changes. Changing the number of credits earned in apprenticeship courses serves to accurately reflect the level of work being required. IV Catalog Language If you are proposing a change to an existing program or major, please cut and paste the requirements as they appear in the current catalog below. www.umt.edu/catalog Please provide the proposed copy as you wish it to appear in the catalog. Please explain/justify the new proposal or change. The Creative Pulse Graduate program was developed in 1990, with courses offered for credit under the auspices of three departments: Art, Drama and Music. In addition, the School of Media Arts has become actively involved in delivering relevant coursework. All courses are graduate-level. Having multiple cross-listings for the same course is cumbersome and unnecessary. We are proposing a new rubric (or department name) for Creative Pulse. CVPA recommends an abbreviation of CP. Due to accreditation requirements for the MME program, the seminar courses will remain cross-listed with MUSE. However, all other courses will only be offered for CP credit.
