Reference guidelines at: http://www.umt.edu/facultysenate/Grad/UG.htm (syllabus required in section V) 6. Other programs affected by the change 7. Justification for proposed change LS and WGS This general education H course was moved to the 200 level during the review of general education courses. Since then, it has come to my attention that two affected programs, Liberal Studies and Women’s Studies, both of which use this course in partial fulfillment of their requirements, require that it be an upper level course. In addition, the History Department is short of 300-level courses due to changes in the curriculum related to the new writing requirement. I have also learned that there are several other 300-level Gen Ed courses. The course has been approved and taught as a General Education course for the past fifteen years both the 300 and 200 level and remains, in terms of content, substantially the same: a comprehensive survey of American history with an emphasis on women’s experiences. I am seeking permission to list it as 371H to fulfill the needs of General Education, Liberal Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies as well as History. As the attached syllabi indicate, I eliminated the essays from the course when I moved it from the 300 level to the 200 level; I will return to the 300-level assignments (i.e., requiring both exams and essays) if this proposal is approved.
