Please explain/justify the new proposal or change. We have had steady growth in the Nature-based Tourism option since its approval in 2002, with currently half of our students electing that option. The remaining students are enrolled in the Recreation Resources Management Option. In addition, several of our faculty have developed strong research ties with both the National Park Service and similar agencies in New Zealand, South Africa and Canada. The content of many of our undergraduate courses reflect this research area and many of our students go on to work for the National Park Service and the Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks. As many of our competitor programs in the region and in the rest of the US also reflect a focus on Parks, Tourism and Recreation, we feel that the name change will better position our program for outof-state students seeking a program that emphasizes our faculty strengths and our location surrounded by many National Parks and Wilderness areas, a state with a strong tourism industry based on natural resources, and numerous state and federal recreation management agencies. We are requesting the name change to better reflect the emphasis of our undergraduate degree program based on our current undergraduate options, the student interests and career options, and the faculty research and teaching foci.
