MEMORANDUM DATE: TO: September 18, 2008 General Education Sub‐Committee: Group 3 Foreign Language and Symbolic Systems FROM: Douglas Dalenberg, Chair, Department of Economics RE: Group 3 requirements in Economics Since a major in Economics at The University of Montana is required to take Math 150 and Math 241, we propose that this major requirement fulfill the Group 3 Foreign Language and Symbolic Systems General Education requirement. Math 150 is not a prerequisite for Math 241 and each class only has one prerequisite. Neither is an economics course. Do we need formal approval from the sub‐committee for this existing requirement to fulfill the Group 3 requirement? If this is satisfactory, how do you recommend that we indicate to our majors that this requirement satisfies the Group 3 requirement?
