The Student Court Letter of Interpretation March 07, 2011 All Members of the E-Board and Senate, With the powers stated in the SGA Constitution Article VI.6.6 and the Judicial By-laws Section 2.A., on February 24, 2011 the Student Court interpreted Article VII. Section 1:b&c of the Senate By-Laws that states: “Wherein the senate pro-tempore is unavailable or unwilling to perform his/her roles as chair of the senate in the circumstances described in section 1, subsection (a) above the most senior chair of the standing committees shall preside” and “Wherein the chairs of the standing committees shall have coordinate seniority in the senate, the chair of the rules and administration, internal affairs, appropriations, academic affairs and student services shall preside over the senate in such precedence of order as mentioned”. With a majority vote the Student Court has decided that the seniority of a senator shall be determined as follows, any senator that has served in the senate for the longest amount of time without any breaks in their tenure with the Student Government Association. A break is deemed as any time a senator has stepped down from their position under any circumstance, such as dismissals, resignation, or suspension. In the event of a break, the senator restarts their tenure in the Senate. If you do not agree with this interpretation, you are free to file an appeal with the Student Court, which you will be notified within forty-eight (48) hours if the appeal was denied or accepted.
