Present: Andrew Glaser, Hayley Kresnak, Alex Joers, Jacob Schimmel, Cole Paulsen, Ingrid Iverson, Mark Haakenson, Megan Lindbeck, Paula Knudson b. Absent: Bethany Brent, Lisa Kruse Old Business a. Questions from Last Week New Business a. Presentations i. Undergraduate Research 1. Increase is from pay increase. a. Money is tied to how much they can give back out to students b. Funding for NCUR and student projects ii. Graduate Research 1. Delegating how much money each college gets for graduates. a. Graduate council policies b. Assigns funding to individual graduate students i. 1 mini grant and 1 grant ii. Total cannot exceed $2200 dollars 2. Changed deadlines so it better fit schedules a. Survey costs have gone down b. Money is going to help them present work at regional and international conferences i. Presenting can cost $1000-$2000 ii. Money only allowed to cover out-of-pocket expenses d. The Mini-grants are starting to take off so spending should increase. iii. Admissions 1. 2 main items a. Diversity Recruiter i. Not all of the salary was utilized because did not have person for whole year ii. Multi-cultural recruitment days 1. 7-10 recruitment days 2. Students from Milwaukee, Twin Cities, and greater La Crosse Area 3. 352 students participated iii. Goal is 8 recruitment days 1. Increased funding is due to 2% pay increase as well as to go back to the 2013-2014 budget year. 2. If funding were to be increased a social interaction in Milwaukee 3. If funding were cut then a reduction in the number of recruitment days 4. General linear increase trend from 2004 to 2014 in number of multicultural applications and freshmen students 5. Increase in multicultural percentage of student population from 9.25% to 9.6% 6. Changed in how students check the cultural boxes. iv. Office of International Education 1. Changing leadership AIOC 2014-2015 Academic Initiatives Oversight Committee University of Wisconsin-La Crosse a. Looking into why full amount of scholarship funding was not fully spent i. Looking to increase the amount given to study abroad students b. 17% of students study abroad i. Looking to increase that to 20% and then grow ii. UW-Stout surpassed UW-La Crosse in number of enrolled international students c. Increase in programming i. Students earn points for attending programs. There is a challenge for students attending programs. An increase may benefit students d. Looking to increase the portfolio of international students to correct problems V. VI. VII.
