his edition of AtLourdes magazine celebrates a select
group of alumni, students and friends who are making a
remarkable contribution to society. The Lourdes Super Heroes named
to the League of Extraordinary Gray Wolves were nominated by their
academic chairs and advisors for performing remarkable tasks and
services in their chosen profession as well as in their community.
Additional super heroes making a significant contribution this semester include:
 Two Habitat for Humanity Campus Ministry Outreach groups building homes for
families in substandard housing in Prattville, AL and Maryville, TN
 Collaborative trip with Lourdes and Siena Heights University students assisting
the St. John Bosco Home for Boys, a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy, in Manchester
Parish, Jamaica
 Students helping the Franciscans of the Poor program to live out the Gospel
message of justice through outreach to the poor and underserved in Cincinnati, OH
In the coming months, the Lourdes Community will once again gather to celebrate
our students’ accomplishments at the annual Research & College Symposium
and Awards Ceremony. In May, we will welcome our newest alumni members at
Commencement. I encourage you to attend and review all upcoming events.
Sincerely,
David Livingston, PhD
President

“As Lourdes continues to provide
the best private university
education in this region, we are
cognizant of the importance
enrollment and assessment play
in our institution’s success. With
these appointments, Lourdes is
poised to recruit top students
and professionals from our
region and across the globe,”
adds Dr. Livingston.
Social work program awarded
eight year accreditation
Lourdes University is pleased to announce that its baccalaureate
program in social work has been awarded an eight year continuation
of its accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
The honor means Lourdes’ program has met the nationally recognized
standards set forth by the association regarding the preparation of
competent social work practitioners.
For the re-accreditation, Lourdes
was required to conduct a selfstudy, provide documentation
supporting the implementation and
success of initiatives set forth by the
University’s Department of Social
Work and complete a site visit with an
accrediting CSWE representative.
“This accomplishment and acknowledgement from the CSWE affirms
the academic excellence found within our social work program. Being
accredited by the CSWE means our students are eligible for state
licensure upon graduation and will also enjoy advanced standing in
master’s level social work programs throughout the country,” reflects
Geoffrey Grubb, PhD, Provost.
Lourdes University launched its social work baccalaureate program in
1984 and has been accredited through the CSWE since 1993. Lourdes’
bachelor of arts degree in social work was authorized by the Ohio Board
of Regents and accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and
Schools in 1986 and provides the academic credentials for graduates
to take the Bachelor examination for social work licensure through
the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB). For more on Lourdes
University’s social work program, visit www.lourdes.edu/socialwork.
MSN: NAP celebrated first

Phase #1 of mid-campus expansion underway
As part of Lourdes University’s strategic plan, the
institution has accumulated 10 acres over the past
6 years including the former bus property off Brint
and McCord Roads. After working with Sylvania city
administration to have the planned development
approved, Lourdes broke ground on the first phase
of its mid-campus expansion in October.
“We are very excited to begin work on making
this area a beautiful and useable space for both
our Lourdes University students and the greater
The university has budgeted approximately $2
million for this phase, which will create a park-like
setting in the space connecting Lourdes main
historic campus with its student housing.
Grounds preparation & Walking Pathway
The grounds of Lourdes’ mid-campus will be given
a complete overhaul, including new landscaping,
fencing, utilities relocation (cable, gas, water,
electric, etc.) and most importantly, a paved
pathway that will connect the main campus to
Lourdes Commons.
Sylvania community. Residents already enjoy the
park-like atmosphere on Lourdes’ main campus
and often walk the grounds. The construction of
our mid-campus pathway will provide even more
walkable green space for those in the area,” notes
David Livingston, PhD, President.
Two homes off Convent Boulevard (6725 and 6731)
also will be removed to make way for added green
space, parking and the walking pathway.

Lourdes students donned their best attire during the
University’s inaugural semiformal dance. Held in the
Franciscan Center, more than 100 students and their
guests danced the night away to a DJ and enjoyed
