There were five successful MBA teams that received funding for the following projects: motionsensor lighting, low-flow restrooms, print paper reduction, and the installation of refillable water stations. These successful proposals demonstrate our students’ and alumni’s commitment to being leaders in their communities and further exemplifies business as a noble profession. Refillable Water Stations: The Lourdes University community was asked to forgo disposable bottles and cups in favor of reusable beverage containers and utilizing strategically located refillable water stations around campus. By removing disposable cups, the institution will save approximately $3,200 per year. Additionally, by utilizing refillable bottles over disposable cups, this project will keep up to 8,000 cups out of landfills each year. Motion Light Sensor Installation: With the installation of 47 motion sensors in St. Francis Hall and the Canticle Center, Lourdes University will realize a reduction of more than 90,000 kilowatts used per year, a 30% savings in annual energy bills, and a 70% decrease in carbon dioxide emission. The motion sensor installation project is set to begin in August 2015. Water Conservation Project: The installation of low flow toilets and urinals in restrooms located around campus will assist in reducing water usage and reduce energy costs by $15,011 per year. Print Management System: Through the installation of a Print Management System with card readers and PaperCut Software, and implementing a print quota, Lourdes University would assist in saving 198 trees per year and would realize a 50% reduction in paper. The Sylvania Franciscan Village (SFV) Green Fund was established in fall 2013 as a way to encourage and financially support efforts by Lourdes University, Sylvania Franciscan Health, and the Sisters of St. Francis in creating programs and initiatives that help the community become more sustainable and environmentally responsible. 23 IACBE ACCREDITATION Lourdes University College of Business and Leadership is proud to announce its undergraduate reaccreditation and first time accreditation for its MBA and MOL programs through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE). The process of accreditation by the IACBE required the College of Business and Leadership (COBAL) to prepare a comprehensive self-study in which we demonstrate the extent to which we meet the IACBE’s “Accreditation Principles”. In addition, we underwent a site visit by an independent team of professional peer reviewers. COBAL’s self-study, the site-visit team’s report of findings, and our response to the report were then reviewed by the IACBE’s Board of Commissioners, which approved our accreditation status. Specialized programmatic accreditation by the IACBE is a means by which students, parents, the business community, and other stakeholders of the institution can be assured that the academic business unit complies with high principles of excellence and follows best practice in business education. Furthermore, accredited schools have demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement, excellence in business education, and advancing academic quality. Accreditation means that the College of Business and Leadership’s programs are considered high-quality, and that the academic business college is functioning effectively (e.g., is producing excellent student learning outcomes). 24 www.lourdes.edu/business COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND LEADERSHIP 6832 Convent Boulevard Sylvania, Ohio 43560
