The University of Montana School of Art is excited to announce an innovative new
course in conjunction with the Tippet Rise Art Center in Fishtail, MT.
Neo Geo: Site Specific Art explores art and architecture’s relationship to site and land
use in the West. It considers engaging new geometric, geographic and geologic
outcomes that can be approached from multiple fields of study. This course will engage
top students in Art, Media Arts, Creative Writing and Environmental Studies by
investigating the tremendous power of place.
The course will include a lecture by Lucy Lippard, Dan Flores, Patrick Zentz, and Alban
Bassuet (Director at Tippet Rise). Neo Geo will be taught by UM Professor MaryAnn
Bonjorni.
This summer course is designed both for a Graduate experience in ARTZ 595 and an
undergraduate experience in ARTZ 391. Course dates: May 23-Jun 24
Must apply and be accepted before enrolling with consent of instructor.

This is a five-week summer course that will take place in Missoula for three weeks and
at Tippet Rise Art Center, Fishtail, Montana, for two separate, one-week stays. Course
includes a research component, site reconnaissance, presentations from visiting
scholars in location at Tippet Rise, studio component in Missoula, and return to Tippet
Rise for final project presentations.
* Note in addition to tuition, a self-supporting fee for most meals and accommodations
in Fishtail are anticipated; however, we are trying to keep this amount to a minimum.
Eligibility for ARTZ 595 includes currently enrolled graduate students in art, media arts,
environmental studies, or creative writing.
Eligibility for ARTZ 391 includes undergraduates with a minimum of junior standing and
a 3.0 or better in their major, including art, media arts, environmental studies, or
creative writing.
