Position Description
Purpose of position:
The Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Project Coordinator is a full time position
(37.5 hours), based on grant funding, coordinating and implementing the Bayfield
County Aquatic Invasive Species Program. Primary responsibilities include:
 Coordinating, updating, and implementing the county-wide AIS strategic plan
 Maintaining working relationships and providing technical support on AIS
control with partners
 Preparing grant applications and reporting to fund AIS education, prevention,
and control work in Bayfield County
Essential duties and responsibilities:
 Facilitate and coordinate the on-going activities of the Bayfield County Aquatic
Invasive Species Strategic Plan overseeing and assisting the executors of
each activity.

Provide educational outreach support, technical assistance, social media and
other multi-media information on aquatic invasive species via news releases,
trainings, workshops, displays, and other presentations to groups such as lake
associations, school groups, elected officials, and at county (county fair, etc)
and regional events as needed.

Organize and provide logistical support of the Bayfield County AIS Committee
and serve in advisory role on committee.

Coordinate efforts and network with other county departments, Northwoods
Cooperative Weed Management Association, municipalities, community and
lake leaders, WDNR, UW-Extension, conservation organizations, and other
individuals involved with the project.

Work with the Bayfield County AIS Committee and community groups and
organizations to determine how funding will be used in support of Bayfield
County AIS Strategic Plan and to fulfill grant project products/deliverables.

Review the WDNR AIS Control Grant process and provide application and
reporting documentation as required within the timelines established.

Supervise interns and other department staff involved in AIS work

All other duties assigned, as deemed necessary to perform the responsibilities
of this position.
Knowledge and skills required:
1. A Bachelor’s degree in a natural resource related field is required
2. Strong verbal and written communication skills
3. Ability to work with a diverse group of partners and stakeholders
4. Ability to develop and implement action plans that address major socioeconomic and/or natural resource conservation issues
5. Aptitude in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
6. Familiar with budgeting and financial record keeping
7. Experience in strategic planning and annual operating plan development
8. Experience and knowledge in the identification, prevention, control and
ecology of aquatic invasive species preferred
9. Supervisory experience preferred
10. ArcMap/GIS experience preferred
11. Experience in conducting educational presentations with a variety of age
groups
12. Valid driver’s license
Potential field activities may require the ability to work in rough, wet or hilly
terrain, or on the water doing arduous tasks. Work may also need to be done
during inclement weather. Drivers license is required to travel to work sites and
meeting locations. County vehicle provided.
The candidate must be available to work evening meetings and weekends as
required.
Work station / travel required:
The AIS Project Coordinator will be housed in the Bayfield County Land & Water
Conservation Department and overseen by the County Conservationist with
policy direction from the AIS and Land Conservation Committees. Proof of valid
auto insurance is required.
Hours and Scheduling
This position is 37.5 hours per week generally Monday through Friday. Some
work may involve evening meetings, overnight travel, and weekend work as
required.
Salary & Benefits
Hourly wage is $16.00-$19.00 dependent upon experience and qualifications.
Vacation (one week after first year, two weeks after second year, and Holiday
pay (11 recognized holidays) provided.
This position is a grant funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon
future funding availability.
